Post Match Blizzard Day Blues
Residency is in the bag, folks!

Let's stop to reflect on this milestone that this excellent news has brung ( ok I KNOW that's not a word but sometimes the sentence must say brung):
This is the first time in 15 years that I know where I will be living for the next three consecutive years. Maybe four. And five if we want Leah to finish high school in NYC.
Which is also a statement to how much instability and change I've been living with for most of my adult life. Hold your applause-- survival is still up for grabs.
New topic. Today's nor'easter, lovingly called Hella Stella by my friend. Ive been trying to explain to my Utah and west coast friends that Atlantic storms are way more powerful and unpredictable than anywhere I've lived. We had winds up to 40 mph with sideways blowing ice chunks for hours. There is no amount of clothes or shovels or 4WD that can hold up to it. So if you hear about entire cities shutting down, it's not from wimpiness or lack of snow plows.
The day was a bit tough. I'm too tired for all the details but here's how eachof us handled it.
Me: woke up too early, took a nap and woke up to breakfast made by Jacob and Leah with Lucy crying. Spent the rest of the day trying to make everyone else happy. Everyone went to bed in tears, so #momfail.
Jacob: made breakfast, did dishes and spent the rest of the day camped in the couch playing Minecraft. And wondering why everyone was so crabby. Finally admitted that the match took everything out of him and he needed a day to veg. Fine, veg. I get it. But do it somewhere else so I can have precious couch real estate. Land is gold in this house, you know.
Leah: watched YouTube and ate oatmeal creme pies all day. Asked mom to help with homework when CLEARLY HER HANDS WERE FULL WITH TEN OTHER THINGS. Cheated at a game of Mancala. Spent most of the night studying body parts for science and giggling at male reproduction.
Hannah: demanded hands on activities, back to back, the entire day. So much that an hour after bedtime she had to come show me yet another project and ask how she messed it up and do I think it looks ok and here's a detailed explanation of how I did every single step Mom are you listening?!
Not included-- sewing doll pillows and making lots of food.
Lucy: crying and not sleeping and nonstop fussing over this tooth. I don't remember the other two having such a hard time with teeth. Here's her guilty face after finding a York and eating some of it.
Today's over, right? I didn't even get to make my pie for Pi Day. Whatev. Better luck tomorrow, Franklin family. Some days just stink.
