Uncool cold sores

So, after my last post I realized I was a bit wiggy. That's an understatement.

I woke up the next day with red, irritating bumps around my eye. By Tuesday, they had blown up into ugly, festering blisters. I went to the dr and he decided it was a bacterial infection and prescribed antibiotics (which I didn't fill). This morning, the blisters had doubled in number and size. There are about 20 of them. Yes, I counted. I looked like a complete freak--too vain to take a picture of it.

I canceled math and went to the dermatologist. Here is a brief summary of what I said, "I have ugly sores all over my face. I can't be seen in public. I want to hide under a blanket for week. Please make them go away by tomorrow because this is ruining my life." After some thoughtful pontification, he concluded that it was a breakout of cold sores due to excessive stress. It's true, you can get cold sores around your eyes and up your forehead. The nurse gave me a cortisol shot "directly in the buttocks" (Forrest Gump, anyone?). He also gave me some enormous horse pills--an antivirus--and told me to destress. This is a direct quote from him: "I mean, you're probably a wife and a mother..." Now insert me glaring at him with steam coming out my infested face. You're probably a wife and a mother? I won't even get started on how condescending and narrow and ...actually I need to stop there or I'll say some inappropriate things. Let's just say that I tactfully set him straight on the major points of my life and why I might feel stressed right now. Not that it was any of his business.

I can tell the shot and pills are taking effect. I'm nauseous, sprouting a headache, and severely fatigued. Maybe if I can muster the nerve, I will post a picture, but by tomorrow I'm sure it will be a thing of the past. I'm sure of it.

And the ironic thing is, I spent a day on health care business (dr appt, pharmacy, pill side effects, etc) because I was stressed, which made me miss a day of homework, which is making me more stressed.

UPDATE 10/3/12--The festering sores have turned into scabs. In case you cared.

UPDATE 10/4/12--Two kids asked me today if I had the chickenpox.
