Costumes, Semi-Homemade

I've reached a special point in the night where I'm too tired to study anything and too awake to go to bed. So I blog.

I mentioned last time that I went to Devil's Kitchen. It's outside of Nephi (yep, Utah has a town called Nephi) and into some mountains. It was actually stunning scenery, another reminder that Utah has some really fantastic landscapes. The beauty is there, folks, it just has to be found sometimes.

Bad lighting, but still cool:

To get here, you drive on some road (duh) and walk on a woodsy path about 1/4 of a mile. Then all of sudden, voila! Red rock and hoodoos everywhere. Hoodoos are those tall spiky things that stand alone. The whole thing is totally out of place with the rest of the scenery. It looks very desert-ish but is actually in the middle of the Uintah forest. I was alone and don't know how long I gawked at it. Then my camera died and I peed in a bush.

Tonight I should be at Witch's Night Out at Gardner Village with some friends. Some great friends that I love and miss. Instead, I'm at home on the computer, studying for a test Monday and finishing up the NINE assignments I had due this week. Plus 5 lesson plans for teaching next week. Yes, I'm bitter. I'm an Antisocial Maximus. <--it's a new kind of dinosaur with a large rear end

You know how when you get married and you change friends because hanging out with your single friends got awkward? Or you have a baby and all you want to do is talk to other beginning parents who 'get it'? I've realized, after two years of being in this blasted program, that being an old student is kind of the same thing. My friend pool is changing, mostly because it's hard to be patient with someone who turns down every invitation to hang out/eat calories/dress up/fill in the blank.

And to rub it all in, my kids had a Halloween party that could absolutely NOT BE MISSED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, MOTHER. They have been planning their costumes for weeks and feverishly looking forward to this event. I told them that we were making our own costumes with whatever we could find in the house. My mom made this witch dress and hat for Hannah. She's the best seamstress I know. So cute, Ma!

You may or may not recognize that dress that Leah's wearing...it's the same one she's worn since she was four and just had to be Giselle from the movie Enchanted. This is the third year she's used this dress. We've added puffier sleeves and lengthened it twice. I made the veil and bouquet and she added the Rapunzel wig..

They both turned out really cute. Ironically, they didn't love the party and came home early. Because this night couldn't have gotten funner, I tell ya.

Total costume cost ended up being about $25--a bit of extra fabric, cheap witch hat, even cheaper tiara, fake flowers, etc.

I promise I'm not that bitter. I'm just a wee bit pathetic around the edges.
