Bits of the week thus far

It's okay, we can laugh about this one. I'm more concerned about the bags under my eyes than the dopey expression on my face, and don't you think Simon and Garfunkel add a nice touch?



It was a really nice day and the girls begged to go to the playground. I wish I could say that it was more fun, but....it's still pretty soggy out there. Hannah was soaked from the knee down-did I mention yet that she cried ALL DAY? Don't let the glasses fool you. She's a turkey in disguise.


I tried to get them to play catch with a basketball. It worked for a few seconds, until Leah decided the ball was her own and not to be shared. End of catch.


Leah could't make it down the twisty slide because it was damp, so she had to push herself down. So why was it still a big flying fight to get them to leave the half snow covered park? I wish I knew.


Leah also had kindergarten registration today. She failed the screening test and was 'recommended' for Kindergarten Club which goes through the month of June (translation: We want Leah to come to summer school because you're not teaching her enough at home and she may crash and burn in kindergarten. They actually told me that I wasn't doing enough, and she would have done better if we were teaching her at home.)
I wanted her to go to summer school anyway, but not doing enough at home?? A pretty hasty judgment, if you ask me. There is a big, growing jar of Leah comments that we've recieved over the years that should be labeled something "Leah is totally fine-it's your parenting skills that lack."

Great pics. I'm glad I wasn't there for kindergarten reg. I don't think I would have been very nice to the "expert educators" and their take on Leah and what we allegedly haven't been doing for her.

Carrie You are doing great as parents! Leah is doing really good. I love the picture of Hannah in her glasses, cute, cute , cute. Also the picture of you is so funny. You totally don't look old and have big circles on your face.

People are dumb and they say stupid things. I get told constantly that Issac's anger and tantrums are a direct result of our 'home environment'. Yeah right... Every person who ever makes comments like that should have to parent an autistic child. You are doing just fine I'm sure!

Parent Teacher Conference

Dear Mom, You left 4 months ago. You clearly didn't mean to leave when you did, with your shoes sitting by the door and your unfinished paper boxes of chocolates for Relief Society. No one else wants to hear how the girls are doing. No one else has lived with us for so long and understands them and the dynamics of my family like you do. The social media version: “A new burger place in Park Slope— pretty good but girls still love Black Tap better. I love the exposed brick and VW van counter.” The reality: We were supposed to go to burgers last night to remember Dad on the 3rd anniversary of his death. I was very sick this weekend. Leah had a fever of 105— I’m gonna day that again— 105 and Lucy was being picked up by her clown father. No one was ok. We somehow made it out of the house today but we could hardly talk about Dad/Grandpa. Hannah regrets that she doesn’t remember much. Leah is deeply grieving a very special connection they had. She cries silently. I am physically wasted with a chest cold, anxious about how Lucy is doing at her dad’s house and too broken to help anyone.
