This is one of my favorite days of the year because of the very cool date. I've been planning an 8 party all week, and of course nothing ever came of it. My favorite part was going to be a drink called PowerEight (like Powerade, get it? eh?). I thought I was being so funny and when I told Brian, there was a big long pause. "Um, that's sort of dorky," he said. Which made me laugh even harder. Well, I didn't get my PowerEight, but we did have some events today that shouldn't go unannounced.

Poor baby. Our last event was a pony ride for Leah-so we ended on a good note. She loves horses so much! It's beyond just a phase; she's been into horses since birth. At least we had something to talk about on the way home so she didn't pound on Hannah in the backseat.
Doesn't she look so happy? It was a fun time overall. The only thing missing (besides Dad) was Grandpa Ron, who came with us last year. It was a lot of fun and we missed him today!
1)Brian Grew Up
You're probably thinking one of two things: "finally!" or "that's so rude!" But the truth is, almost all wives secretly hope that their husbands will grow up in some way. I get the feeling in my short seven years of marriage that it's a process, and in 20 years I will be writing a post titled "Brian grew up again." And he'll be writing one called "Carrie learned some manners." Getting to the point...
Brian was in Van Slow (our 1994 Plymouth Voyager that belongs in a Smithsonian), on his way to fix his scooter, when he realized that it had an enormously flat tire. (read: both of our vehicles were out of order at this point and Brian had to be to work in a few hours.) I should mention that he only drove about ten feet before realizing the problem. To make a long story short, I will just say that Brian really stepped up to the plate. He figured out how to change the tire on the dinosaur...er, van, which was no small feat since all the parts were rusted on and in weird places. And probably the last time a tire was changed on that thing was never. He didn't give up and turned himself into Mr Mechanic/Mr Problem Solver. It was a big deal for him and I know he's proud of himself. Let's give him a big cheer. He even said "I did a lot of stuff today, involving grease...and metal...and dirt...and pebbles." (read: I feel like a real man.) It was hard not to laugh at that last statement, but I held it together. Sort of. Here he is enjoying himself immensely.
2)Hick Festival (read: county fair)
So, he got to work on time and I decided to take the girls to the county fair by myself. Where do I get these pea-brained ideas? It must be the heat. Both girls wanted so badly to pet the animals, but then got scared when they got close enough to touch. Maybe it was the manure smell? Here's a shot of Leah being a little apprenhensive about a cow. She did end up petting a brown cow, maybe in honor of the fact that I'm not in Oregon and can't eat Brown Cow ice cream in Tillamook. *pauses for an ice cream break*

We went on a few rides, but Hannah was too short for most of them. I told her maybe next year, which was probably a lie because she's so tiny. She was so disappointed about not joining her sister on the car ride.

I'm sure the diagnosis of my having grown up will last only as long as my total cooperation with the spousal unit. It is true that I don't always step up to the plate as much as I should. Maybe one day I'll be all grown up.
How cute are Leah and Hannah in those pictures??!!
