Earning a new degree: Master's In NYC Living

We left off with having applied for an apartment but not feeling super great about it. The realtor called me in the middle of Primary (luckily I could answer) and informed me that the landlord approved our application based solely on the fact that my dad works at BYU, and because he works there, we must have great credit and they won't be running a credit check on us. She sent us the lease this week with a short email telling us we needed to send.....drum roll please..... $9,600 in deposits and fees to hold the place. Cover your ears--

NINE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A ONE BEDROOM MATCHBOX WITH NO DISHWASHER???!!!!

So back to the drawing board. I have some friends in Logan that put me in touch with a family in NYC. I spent 30 minutes talking to this lady today. She has 5 kids--so 7 total people-- in a two bedroom apartment in Manhattan. She and her husband have a bed in the living room. "You get used to not having any privacy," she says. She said it's a rite of passage to move to New York. There is so much to learn and figure out. I felt that way about Miami, though. Anyway, she talked me off a cliff and gave me some great info on schools and some other neighborhoods we hadn't considered. Big, fat, heavy sigh.

I know this will work out. We have everything in place--Jacob even reserved a moving truck today--but I hate not knowing where we'll be. And I hate the stress it's putting on the girls to not know, either. I wish I could give them answers to everything and make it perfect. I can't. And they remind me everyday that I can't.

This is completely unrelated to the rest of this information in this short post: I realized today that I don't like to share my blog address with very many people because I know I have a blunt, sometimes over disclosing way of speaking. I think I subconsciously like to keep my audience small so I don't feel inhibited in case I want to vent about, I don't know, the primary president or some catty girl in the ward or my inlaws (I made all that up. I don't have complaints about any of them. Minus the catty girl....but I'm not getting into it. I refuse.)
