Obligatory and slightly boring book update

POST ALERT: This is for me, not you. You don't have to read it.

Two years ago I made a goal to read all the Newberry winners (young adult books). I figured I should get in touch with some of this literature since I've decided to teach teenagers in Resource (what was I thinking?). Anyway, here is a brief update on how that's been going. It's been going slower than planned cuz I can't stop reading other stuff too. Main conclusion: There are too many good books and not enough time in my life to read them all. Anyway, here are the ones I've read and the year that they won the Newberry Medal:

Dead End in Norvelt (2012)
Moon Over Manifest (2011)
When You Reach Me (2010)
The Graveyard Book (2009)
Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices From a Medieval Village (2008) ***BORING***
The Higher Power of Lucky (2007)
Criss Cross (2006)
Kira Kira (2005)
The Tale of Despereaux (2004) ***BORING***
Crispin: The Cross Of Lead (2003)
A Single Shard (2002)
A Year Down Yonder (2001) ---in progress
Bud, Not Buddy (2000)
The Giver (1994)
Number The Stars (1990)
The Whipping Boy (1987)
Bridge to Terabithia (1978)
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry (1977)
Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh (1972)
From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (1968)
A Wrinkle in Time (1963)
Island of the Blue Dolphins (1961)
Johnny Tremain (1944)

Some of these I read when I was younger, and since they were painful back then, I won't be revisiting them. I mean, how many times can one person gag down Johnny Tremain? From the Mixed Up Files, however, I could read every year. It's about a girl who runs away from home and hides in a museum in NYC. *happy dance*happy dance*
