Wha...? I haven't blogged about Bear Lake yet?

When you grow up in the Northwest, you naturally assume that bodies of water=shady trees nearby. It's been baffling to me and others that I know (you know who you are) why anyone would visit a body of water or reservoir without the comfort of some trees. As part of my unofficial, self-imposed Love Utah campaign, we went to Bear Lake with my sister and her family over Labor Day weekend. It was a great experience to find out why people visit this little spot in droves, something we never understood because--you guessed it--there are no trees. Here's how you have fun at 'Bare', tree-less Lake:

1)Bring your own pop-up tent for shade.

2)Get in the zone in your tiger chair and some tortilla chips:

3)Take a nap on the dog-infested blanket. That's my sister, not me:

4)Ride a plastic whale with your cousin:

5)Build a sand castle, or a sand toilet (didn't get pics of that, sorry):

6)Enjoy some shallow, warm water. This was my favorite part. The water level was so high that there was hardly any beach (notice the muddy excuse for a beach we are playing in), but it made the water so shallow that all the kids could play in it and I didn't worry about them. It was warm enough that I even went in for a while. I used to love to swim, but now I can't stand to put my face in the water because I know too much about what's in it.

7)Finish the day with a milkshake from The Bear Cave:

Aren't they sweet? Sam and Leah have really warmed up to each other lately and become friends, and Hannah is snuggling with Rachel. Cousin love is the best!

I missed this post--sorry! It's great to see the pics--even though Bare Lake is lame, it's all we've got, so we have to enjoy it!

I didn't do a good enough job of saying how much I enjoyed Bear Lake. I surprised myself by liking the water so much! I would back, muddy beach and all :).
