Hello, Blogger, My Old Friend. I've Come To Talk To You Again.

Hello, Bloggy McBlogface!! It's been a while.

Isn't this the cutest background? I put it up a few weeks ago but still hadn't found the ability to write the words I know you want to hear. I think I'm ready now but if all this comes out awkward, can we still be friends? I could use a friend right now.

There is a blogger/facebooker lady that I love who does a website call Parenting: Illustrated In Crappy Pictures. She even calls her kids Crappy Baby and Crappy Boy (which are names we all think of at least once a week in regards to our kids. Don't deny it). She stopped blogging/drawing for a few months to give her creative side a break and focus on other things. I also have this pattern in my life so it was a relief to hear that someone else does this thing. It happens mostly with me and music--I will play/teach/perform for a few years, then I need a break before I can jump in again. Sometimes a few weeks, sometimes a year. Blogging, writing, crafting, sewing, etc are no exception but I definitely don't want to take a year off my happy little blogspot.

My thoughts are still incoherent and wildly complex, mixed with raging pregnancy hormones and a huge dose of instability about the future. So I'll turn this into one of the cheesy listicle internet articles that I usually scoff at and mentally tear apart. Feel free to scoff at and mentally tear apart my listicle, but if you're going to comment about it, it has to be in the form of a listicle :). Jokes.

7 Things You Never Knew About Pregnancy!

We've all heard about mood swings, strange cravings, swollen cankles and really bad gas. But here are seven lesser known side effects that can guarantee you live a life of abstinence and/or using the most effective birth control available.

Did you know....

1. You can still have gallstones get stuck in your common bile duct even if you don't have a flippin' gallbladder?! And it's apparently very common in pregnancy? And that your previous gallbladder removal surgery can cause inflamed liver tissue that the huge baby you are growing aggravates and swells?

2. You can also have an enlarged spleen for no reason. It's called splenomegaly. It's not the baby's fault this time.

3. Sitting in a church pew for 70 minutes can cause you to throw out your back for a solid two weeks?

4. Ribs can become dislocated, cracked, with torn ligaments, swelling  and visible rib-shaped bruises? Not for any special reason. Just that baby again.

5. Oxycontin, muscle relaxers, and diphenhydramine can all be taken at the same time with no known affect on the baby as a desperate way to relieve pain? And if you are immobile/desperate enough, you just might try it? As a side note, this wretched nightmare of pharmaceutical poison didn't even help.

6. If you get bronchitis while you have #4, you can't cough so the virus just sits there and festers in your lungs and causes asthma to flare up?

7. If your 9 and 11 yr old daughters walk in on you taking a shower, you can expect comments like, "That thing is HUGE!" and "Thank you for reminding me why I will NEVER have a baby as long as I live." Sassy little smart alecs.

(That's the end of my snarky edition of a listicle.)

I have a lot more to say. Most of this is not organized or even amusing. It's just what's going on. Jacob didn't get into residency and we are scrambling, rather ungracefully, to figure out what to do next year while he reapplies. So far the plan is for him to drive out here in two weeks with all our stuff, get a job here and focus on his residency applications that will come up in September. I have been applying to teach next year and have some promising interviews with Vancouver School District coming up this week. I've also started an online, stay at home type job with a major testing company that administers and grades standardized tests for schools and universities. I grade California's English essays for grades 3-5. It's been very eye opening to be on the other side of common core and witness firsthand how it's being interpreted by students. My sister threw me a long distance baby shower and it was one of the kindest, most generous and touching experiences I've had in years. Or ever. The work she put into and the love of my friends and family have reached a very deep part of my heart. Leah does extremely well at school, especially considering she has a mom who can't remember her own name sometimes. Hannah hates her teacher and has taken the stress of moving and the unknown future very hard. Both girls, overall, are doing amazingly well. They have found their niche at school and have organized a neighborhood play with some other girls around here. They are both anxious about how the baby will affect our lives and will I still pay attention to them? Will I still tuck them in and be mom? It's too much for tender little souls to deal with.

The three of us went to Cannon Beach, Seaside, Astoria and Tillamook for Spring Break. Quite possibly my favorite places on earth and we all needed some time to just get out of town and refresh a bit.
