Student Teaching

There is no natural segue from the last post about my dating adventures to this awesome topic. Let's just say that the fun is over and I've had to seriously switch gears into school again. Plus it's snowed about 156" this week and my mood is looking like inversion gray right now. Estoy de mal humor!

I've started about 3 different posts about student teaching and none of them were worth posting. I think part of it is that now I've crossed this boundary into being a teacher instead of being an outsider, so I have to really watch what I say. And we all know how good/bad I am at watching what I say and being tactful.

So, I won't mention the student who looks and acts exactly like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

And I won't mention the heated discussion I got into with someone about serving missions. ONLY IN UTAH DOES THIS HAPPEN, PEOPLE.

And I won't tell you how many times a student asked me this week if I like Metallica. And how many times I changed my answer just to be a twit.

But I will tell you that I get along extremely well with my cooperating teacher. She is so, so funny and I'm excited for the chance to work with her. The office staff gave me a school shirt and some dark chocolate.

I *might* have had a small battle with another teacher over when Simon and Garfunkel recorded Bridge Over Troubled Water. Because some things you just don't mess with me on, ok? I'm making it sound like all I do at school is fight with people. I only do that part of the time.

And I'll mention that high school starts at an ungodly hour of the morning, which means I have to be there at an even ungodlier hour. One of my first questions was, Where's the caffeine dispenser?

And I will also complain a bit that my book lineup has been briefly interrupted with a new list of books: Touching Spirit Bear (for junior and senior English) and the Utah Secondary Math book. Yaaaaay.

I got through the first little bit of Touching Spirit Bear and woke up several hours later with a Kindle on my face.

Here's how I felt this week:

And will probably feel that way every week until this craziness is over.

Go Carrie, Go! You're awesome and I can't wait to hear all of the fabulous stories you are sure to have. I love you! (And seriously--WHO would mess with Simon and Garfunkel?)

I'm also waiting for the identity of the person who messed with Simon and Garfunkel...bring 'em on! Other than that, I'm glad things are looking up. I know student teaching is a dose of reality, but you are handling it well. (At least on the outside). You seem to have a brighter demeanor when you have a purpose (other than wiping runny noses and curling pony tails). You'll do great, even if it seems too tough. We can BOTH make it through this semester!!
