Consignment chic?

A few months ago, I came across this blog. It's done by a girl who got a degree in fashion but was unable to find a job, so she started a blog that featured outfits she put together from Walmart stuff. I don't particularly love Walmart for a variety of reasons, but I was impressed at the whole concept of trying to be frugal and still dress yourself well, even on a budget.

The sister of a friend of mine (don't think about that too hard) owns a consignment shop in the next town over. That means that I can take my unwanted clothes and all the clothes girls grow out of, they sell it for me and give me half of whatever it makes. I can either spend the money there or take the cash. Seriously, it's the best setup. Last year I made over $100.

I love the idea of reusing clothes, shoes, or whatever, if it's possible. We generate so much waste that it feels good to buy someone else's clothes and make use out of them--as long as they fit well. I enjoy looking around a mall, but with the exception of a good pair of shoes, I can't justify spending so much money on STUFF. It just doesn't seem right to me.

Anyway, I had Leah take this extremely unflattering picture of me before church today. It's my version of Penny Chic (if you didn't check out the website I marked up there, shame on you and go look at it so you know what this is all about). I don't have cool photo editing software that allows me to write all over the pics, so here's a list:

I swear I looked better than this picture is giving me credit for! Seven year old + camera = fail.

Shirt: consignment, $8 (but it was free since I had credit at the store)
Skirt: Ross, $9
Necklace: Garage Sale, $1. True story
Earrings: Consignment, $3 (also free with credit)
Tights: Target, $5
Not pictured: A pair of hideous black shoes that I've had for 5 years.

I might do some more pictures of my garage sale/consignment store/thrift store finds. I'm getting quite a collection :).

We tried to get a family pic before church, but we all look really strange. Especially the Purple One. Do you like the halo above my head?

I Adore consignment! You'll have to come to my favorite one in SL. They have a great sale every last weekend of the month. :)
