Long, long day
My day involved 5 hours of church. Here's a brief synopsis:
-Get girls ready and out the door by 7:50 am to help Brian with the Ward Choir. Car won't start, so we walked in 20 degree Logan weather and showed up late.
-No one showed up for choir, so Brian went home to get me my asthma medicine (cold weather + exercise=bad lung issues). I tooled around on the organ waiting for church to sart, with both girls pounding away on either side of me.
-Spent most of the first hour (sacrament meeting) in the hallway with Hannah hollering about her bottle and Leah getting cozy with a strange man because she liked his crayons. Wait--that sounded creepy and it wasn't.
-Rushed girls to Primary and nursery so I could teach Spanish sunday school, grabbing chalk and napkins on the way.
-Taught a VERY rusty and slightly humiliating lesson about pre-earth life and a bit about the creation. Napkins were used for the cinnamon rolls I made as an object lesson. Rolls good. Spanish bad. One good thing was I got everyone to sing a hymn in Spanish, which I think is a special treat.
-Rushed to clean up lesson and get to Relief Society to lead music there. I have a 5 minute 'music period' that I can use as I wish. Today I used it to tell everyone that they would be singing in sacrament meeting next week and wouldn't that be fun? I was met with a)looks of horror and disgust and b)questions such as 'what does melody mean?'
-Rush out of Relief Society to pick up Hannah, who causes WW III in the nursery if I don't show up soon enough.
-Rush to talk to the bishop about a few things-like the multiple responsibilities I have-and Hannah spits up chewed grapes on his immaculate suit.
-Limp home (because we don't have the car and my shoes are KILLING me). Get home close to 1 pm.
The rest of the afternoon involved screaming children, sore back, screaming children, extreme exhaustion, and screaming children.
I need to pause for second and say this-I really love going to church and I'm more than happy to participate and do what I can to help and be involved. Today was a tad bit stressful because Brian wasn't there, but overall I really enjoyed being at church today and it's almost always a great experience. It takes a lot of time and effort but totally worth it. I've never thought "I wish I could stay home all day and not have to do this church business." I love it and feel very passionate about it.
We ended the day a good note-dinner with the Walkers. It's such a highlight of my week. I come away feeling a bit more refreshed. It's been so good to have them close by and if we leave Logan someday, I will really miss these dinners that we have. Jen is a great cook and Rachel made some fabulous brownies-they went well with the cookies and cream ice cream. (Hannah got it on her pants, so I dubbed it 'crotches and cream'. Sound good?)
Was that enough for one day? I'm giving myself permission to veg for the next hour.
