Blood tests, Insurance and Other Nightmares
Did I forget to mention that I got some uncool blood tests back? That showed massive inflammation and a likely autoimmune disease? And that I have to wait until new insurance kicks in to get more help? Jacob thinks it's lupus. How fitting that he worked at a rheumatology clinic last year and knows all about treatments and whatnot. I'm going to the clinic this week and will hopefully get some answers.
I'm not ready to talk about my mother in law's visit yet. Better that we don't discuss it now or I'll be up all night writing speeches in my head. If you'd like an idea of what it's like to be around her, do a google search of 'adult female aspergers.'
Leah had a lovely birthday-- she earned a trip to Six Flags for being one of the top ten seventh graders in academics and behavior. (In NYC public schools, behavior is meticulously tracked and recorded. And rewarded.) The trip was on her birthday, so she came home later than normal. We had a laid back meal of chicken tenders, some presents and cake and went to bed. I'm proud of her for her perseverance and friendly demeanor. She's dealt with so much and still gets herself out of bed and to school on time. She reminds of my mom at least a few times per week. It's delightful.
Lucy and I have come to a compromise on sleep. She stays in her crib for half the night then sleeps next to jacob for the rest of the night. This works about 5 days a week. The other days she's a wild card, but I'll take it. She is strongly considering walking, meaning she'd run around the house all day holding onto my hands if I let her. She is extremely verbal and will tell long stories with inflection and hand gestures. She eats like a horse and loves her sisters and daddy so much.
Hannah is also wrapping up her school year this week, feeling both glad it's over and sad to leave her teacher and friends. She will do band and ballet this fall and desperately wants/needs braces. I probably won't survive a summer of her science experiments that involve food coloring.
Jacob has been doing training this month and starts full blown residency next week. It's about time. He's gone crazy and there's no hope of recovery, so goodbye, Jacob.
