Mission: Barf Orange

I have a rash on my face. It's probably the family cursed eczema, which plagues my mom and sister and a slew of others. It won't go away and has been there---and is growing--for two months now. It's ruining my life. I've taken a billion selfies lately just so I can see how it's progressing. The girls even give me daily updates on how it looks. And did I mention that it's ruining my life?

Jacob came home tonight from a visit with his dad. We all missed him, and I'm surprised that I cared as much as I did. I had never planned on enjoying someone else's company this much--it's quite shocking. I'm not complaining, I just always surprise myself.

The girls have to go back to school tomorrow after a nice Spring Break. No one feels ready. They beg to be homeschooled (?) and gripe about how much they hate their school, but then they get honor roll and sign up for a bunch of activities. Academically and socially, they have both progressed leaps and bounds. Putting them in a new school in NYC is giving all of us anxiety attacks.

We continue to make plans to move to Brooklyn this summer, except that our planning looks pretty much like this:

1. Figure out how to move to Brooklyn
2. Make it happen

So basically I don't even know where to start. But I'm sure it will come together.

We got to see my brother last weekend in Tampa. He was there for a conference and we met up and went kayaking. I didn't get enough time to talk to him but it was GREAT to spend a few hours together. He always makes me laugh.

My two favorite Jacobs paddling around with my two favorite girls. Also included in this picture, my favorite Florida tree--mangroves! They are so beautiful and still maintain are the best place to hide a body, should the need arise. There may have been a small discussion about is it a mangrove, a woman grove, or a non-gender specific grove?

Don't they look like two little Minnies all excited and happy? Not pictured is the massive argument Leah decided to have with the world that morning about how everything under the sun was wrong. Her outfit, breakfast, you name it. Jacob finally told her to stuff it (in a much kinder way) and she started in on him for not being nice enough. So she came crying to me about how awful everyone is and how mean the world is to her. I wasn't as sympathetic as she'd hoped. She finally snapped out of it but it took a LONG time. Funny story, though: On the way into Disney World, we heard Leah having a private conversation with herself (she does this a lot) and reminding herself to not argue with Minnie Mouse when she met her. We had a good laugh all morning about Leah having to talk herself out of arguing with Minnie Mouse. The girl would argue with a telephone pole if she could. Gah! Preteens!

Epcot! I've been wanting to check out Epcot for a good 20 years, so this day was really for me. And I took hardly any pictures :).
We happened to be there during the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival. It was amazing!! Leave it to Disney to go over-the-top on gardening. Wow. There was even an "emotions garden" to celebrate the new Pixar movie coming out this summer. Anger plants, Disappointment plants, etc. So cool!! Plus they made topiaries of all the characters.

It was an overcast day, so what you can't see is the ball in the background. This is us in the World Showcase, which takes up half of Epcot. It's a re-creation of several countries and their food. The only thing they have to offer kids was pictures with characters, so that's what we did! Hats off to stepdad of the year who spent the entire afternoon standing in line for princesses. Without complaining.

He did a great job of doing theme parks for someone who hates theme parks. I'm so proud of him and was extremely grateful for the extra pair of hands. Yes, we rented a stroller. Don't judge.

Mary Poppins did such a great job. She even told us to not slouch and stop eating sugar. I was impressed. And she made the teenage boy in front of us blush furiously.

Look at that face!

This ridiculous photo was taken on our way out the door. AFTER we had experienced a ride called Mission: Space Orange that gave me the most horrifically nasty case of motion sickness I've ever had. So much so that it took Jacob dragging me out of the park by the hand, stopping at the ball to rest, and Hannah finding an abandoned wheelchair and pushing me the rest of the way to the car. And me spending the rest of the night in bed. These are not exaggerations. The whole thing was such a debacle that Jacob and the girls keep saying things like "Remember Mission: Barf Orange" and then collapsing in heaps of laughter on the floor. I'm not laughing yet.

This post makes me so happy! Espeically since we just did Disneyland with TEENAGERS! While this may sound bad, it was wonderful. No princesses! I got SO sick on Star Tours. That ride makes me BARF! I didn't have it nearly as bad as you did. But I've learned my lesson with motion and 3D-anything! You will always be so glad you went. YAY! Good luck with your face.
